- Internet Censorship in China/Asia: search engines results and blogs?
-
I know that the Chinese government censors websites, but I need to know if it blocks search engines as well? So my question is in 2 parts, so please answer if you are informed: 1) Does a Google.com or Google.cn search done by a Chinese user in China not have access to certain searches? 2) Are the pages seen on a popular .CN website (like Baidu.CN) in China not contain the exact same content as the same site seen in America? Please tell me and thanks in advance.

- Do people not realize that yahoo is a search engine as well?
-
I'm sorry, but some of the questions I watch go by could have been answered in a matter of seconds simply by typing in yahoo.com and searching. Don't people know what yahoo is and how to use it? Surely this aspect of yahoo is a lot more complicated than the search engine.

- How come Yahoo Maps is free in USA but not in UK?
-
I'd like to add my business to Yahoo maps (as I have with another well known search engine). It's like walking in treacle - keeps taking me to USA page where a basic listing is free. Go to Yahoo.co.uk and suddenly they want your money?

- what was google thinking when they changed their name to topeka?
-
why the crap would google, the most well known search engine change their name i read the blog and just because a city in KANSAS changed their name to google, google decided it would be a good idea to change their name to Topeka (the former name of the city) WTF!? not only is it impractical but it is expensive and will take at least a year for people to get settled in on the situation. Opinions?

- Nobody tries to find my product idea in search engines...?
-
I previously asked a question about how a person with an idea can do a bit of solo market research to gauge demand for their product/service. I was directed to the Traffic Travis SEO tool, which lets you see how many people search for a keyword in the major engines.
Well, the numbers for my keywords of interest are low.
But I'm left wondering just how reliable that information is for me. My product would be something not currently available for purchase in this area (and other parts of the country...but I'm not finished looking around yet). Is it possible that people don't search for it because they just don't know about it? I mean, if Google existed in the 1850s, I bet the number of people searching for "television" or "moving picture box" would have been quite low.
I don't mean to foolishly imply that my thing would be the new OMG I NEED THAT item. Just that it might be something people don't think about, and won't think about until somebody puts it on a store shelf in front of their eyes.
Am I just being silly thinking that? Or does lack of people searching truly demonstrate lack of demand in all cases?

- What caused Google to emerge as a leader in internet search over its competitors?
-
In the early days of the www as we know it, how did Google take market share away from competitors like Yahoo!, Lycos, Web-crawler, Alta Vista, Netscape, Mamma, Ask Jeeves, etc etc. I'm sure there are several more. Seems that many offer several of the same hits - so how did Google emerge as leader?
Also are there any other search engines not as well heard of that offer any unique features as an alternative?

- Help with my new website (search engines)...?
-
I am very new to building a small business website, but seem to be getting the hang of it pretty well. I have a paid search engine submit (website pros) and I was wondering is there a limit to 'how many times' someone should submit a webpage/website? Will it cause a search engine to consider you a spammer or something? How often is too much? Thanks in advance for any answers! Oh, and the main reason I need to know is, being new to this, I have changed up my title, description, keywords, etc. several times... (not knowing what I was doing). But finally I think I have it all how I need it. I have submitted about 3 times in a week and a half :(
